Box Score

RICHMOND, VA. – Overcoming a double digit deficit to start the 4th quarter Wednesday night, Fordham University women's basketball cut the lead to as little as one with under a minute to play, but were outlasted by VCU, 57-54.

Taylor Donaldson would steal the show for the Rams in the final quarter, tallying 12 of her game high 27 points in the fourth alone, including a key four-point play down the stretch which brought the Rams back to within one late. Shooting an even 50% from the floor on 10-of-20 shooting, she would sink four three pointers on the night and go three of three from the line to help keep her side in the fight late.

After allowing 46 points in the first three quarters, Fordham would limit VCU to just eight points from the field in the last 10 minutes of the game, doing it on both ends of the floor to cut into the lead. Fordham and VCU combined to score 10 points in the final 60 seconds of the contest, with Donaldson scoring 12 of the Rams' final 13 points of the night.

Emy Hayford would be the other player to finish in double figures for Fordham with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting along with three assists. As a team the Rams would shoot 44% from the field Wednesday night, with eight of nine players who saw playing time tally at least one basket.

Trading baskets back and forth out of the gates, Fordham and VCU would not give an inch in the first quarter, with the home side holding a slim four point advantage after one. A lopsided second quarter would see VCU start to pull away, taking their biggest lead of the day into halftime.

Out of the break, the two would battle similar to how they did in the opening frame, exchanging makes on either side of the floor, as VCU held a 12 point lead heading into the fourth. An impressive 18-11 advantage in the final ten minutes of the night would see Fordham into the deficit as the fourth quarter progressed, with VCU taking the game with late free throws to win by one possession.

Fordham returns to action Sunday afternoon when they host Davidson on National Television at the Rose Hill Gym at 2:00 p.m. playing on CBS Sports Network.
