Women’s Soccer Edged by Columbia, 2-0

Fordham goalkeeper Serena Mensah Registers Seven Saves

Bronx, N.Y. – (September 7, 2023) – Columbia's Kat Jordan scored twice in the second half to lead the Lions to a 2-0 win over the Fordham Rams in women's soccer action on Thursday night at Moglia Stadium.

With the win, Columbia moved to 3-1-1, while Fordham fell to 2-3-1.

After a scoreless first half, Columbia broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, as Kat Jordan slowly dribbled her way to the center of the offensive zone.  She then took a shot from 22 yards out that curled inside the right post into the upper corner for a 1-0 edge.  It was her second goal of the season.

Jordan struck again in the 79th minute for her second of the game and a 2-0 advantage.  Madi Pilla slipped a quick pass into the center of the offensive end, where Jordan again picked the right side of the net from distance for the goal.

Though she allowed two goals, Fordham goalkeeper Serena Mensah had an excellent match, recording seven saves, just two shy of her career-high which was set last year at Columbia.  Offensively, the Rams were led by Emily Crocco, who had a pair of shots on Columbia goalkeeper Paige Nurkin.

Nurkin stopped both shots to record her third shutout of the season.

Fordham is next in action on Sunday, September 10th, as the Rams head to UAlbany for a 1:00 PM match.
