Bronx, N.Y. – (September 3, 2023) – Some days the ball bounces your way and other days it does not. Today was a bad bounce day for the Fordham women's soccer team, as the Rams fell to Fairfield by a 3-1 score at Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field.
The course of the match immediately changed in the 33
rd minute, as Fordham goalkeeper
Kyla King was red carded for being outside the box and grabbing the ball with her hands as the Rams' final defender on a scoring chance. This put Fordham down a player for the remainder of the match.
On the ensuing free kick, Fairfield's Dana Nadda scored on a shot from 19 yards for her first goal of the season.
The score remained that way until the 52
nd minute, when the Stags doubled their lead. Maddy Theriault stole the ball from Fordham goalkeeper
Serena Mensah in the box and tucked the ball into an open net for a 2-0 advantage. It was her second goal of the season.
Fairfield made it a 3-0 score in the 77
th minute, when Reagan Klarmann found Alex Darcy with a through ball. Darcy then chipped a shot past Mensah for her first tally of the year.
Fordham was able to crack the scoreboard in the 84
th minute for the 3-1 final score. Mensah put a long punt forward that
Carmen Hardwick flicked forward with her head to
Cambrie Arboreen. Arboreen then quickly put the ball past Fairfield keeper Katie Wright for her first goal of the season.
Mensah made four saves in relief of King, while Wright had three stops in the victory.
The Rams are next in action on Thursday, September 7
th, as Fordham will host Columbia at 7:00 PM.
