BRONX, N.Y. – Following a week off from competition, the Fordham men's soccer team will return to the friendly confines of Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday night when it plays host to Davidson on Saturday night in a crucial conference match.

Fordham (4-1-3, 1-1-0 Atlantic 10) fell from the ranks of the unbeatean last Saturday night when it suffered a shorthanded loss to reigning league champ Saint Louis on the road in front of more than 6,000 fans. After falling behind 1-0 on an early penalty kick goal, the Rams equalized in the 58
th minute following a brilliant header from
Daniel D'Ippolito. With the match tied,
Louis Lehr was shown a red card in the 66
th minute, which forced the Rams to play the final 25 minutes of the match with only 10 men. The Billilkens, who were nationally ranked in the preseason, moved ahead in the 75
th minute following an unfortunate bounce in the box and held off a late Rams' flurry to improve to 3-0-0 at home on the year.
Entering that contest with Saint Louis, Fordham had received votes in back-to-back United Soccer Coaches polls, finishing third among "others receiving votes" on Sept. 19. The Rams did not garner recognition in this Tuesday's edition of the top 25, but checked in at no. 22 in the first installation of the NCAA RPI on Monday. Fordham leads the pack among A-10 teams in the RPI at 22 followed by Saint Louis (36) and Davidson (38).
Entering the third weekend of conference action, several Rams rank among the A-10 leaders in a few key statistical categories.
Timo Hummrich has found the back of the net five times in Fordham's first eight games, good enough for third in the league.
Florian Deletioglu is right behind Hummrich with four goals while D'Ippolito has three. D'Ippolito and
Kai Griese both sit among the top 10 in the league with three assists apiece.
Saturday night at Saint Louis marked the first time this season that
Carter Abbott has given up multiple goals in a single game this season. The graduate transfer from Wisconsin owns a 0.80 goals against average and an .821 save percentage, which rank third and second, respectively, in the conference.
Davidson comes to the Bronx sitting atop the Atlantic 10 standings after shutting out both George Mason and George Washington to kick off conference play. Overall, the Wildcats are 6-1-1 on the season, tied for 11
th nationally winning percentage (.813).
In their eight games so far this season, the Wildcats have surrendered just four goals, two of which came in a 2-0 loss to Charlotte on Sept. 20. Senior goalkeeper Lou Liedtka has played every minutes between the pipes for Davidson, compiling a goals against average of 0.50 to go along with an .871 save percentage, both of which rank in the top 10 nationally.
Offensively, Vincent Bennage leads the Wildcats with four goals and three assists for 11 points through eight games, including a goal and two assists on Tuesday against Furman. Sophomores Alonzo Clarke and Denis Krioutchenkov have each scored three times this season for Davidson.
After taking on the Wildcats, the Rams will remain at home for a midweek league matchup against Saint Joseph's on Wednesday night.
