Women’s Soccer Falls to Drexel in Season Opener

Goalkeeper Kyla King Records Five Saves Against Dragons

Philadelphia, Pa. – (August 17, 2023) – The Fordham women's soccer team had a stiff challenge in the 2023 season opener, traveling to Philadelphia to meet the Drexel Dragons.  The Dragons scored twice in just over a minute in the first half and added another goal in the second half for a 3-0 victory in the first ever meeting between the two teams.
 
The Dragons opened the scoring in the 38th minute, as Elise Duffy's cross from the right side, snuck through to Meg Tate in the box, who found the back of the net for her first of the season.
 
Just over a minute later, Drexel made it 2-0, when Liv Brocious tallied her first goal of the year off.  Elise Duffy put a cross into the box which went off Annalena O'Reilly to Brocious for the goal.
 
Drexel capped the scoring in the 58th minute, as Isabel Kuzy netted an a rebound goal off an initial shot by Delaney Lappin.

After being outshot in the first half, Fordham was able to find some possession and finished the game with nine shots, five of which were stopped by Drexel goalkeeper Joella Chase.  Riley Carroll and Marie Degroote each had two shots to lead the Fordham offense.
 
In net, Fordham goalkeeper Kyla King finished with five saves in the contest.
 
The Rams are next in action on Sunday, August 20th, when Fordham hosts Wagner at 3:00 PM at Jack Coffey Field.  That game can be seen on the MSG Network and ESPN+.
