Bronx, N.Y. – (August 20, 2023) – Behind a two-goal performance from graduate student
Caroline Monahan, the Fordham women's soccer team checked off a lot of firsts on Sunday, as the Rams posted a 4-0 win over the Wagner Seahawks at Jack Coffey Field.
Fordham opened the scoring in the seventh minute, as
Sari Frankl slipped a through ball ahead to
Caroline Monahan, who tucked a shot inside the right post for a 1-0 lead.
The Rams made it 2-0 in the 32
nd minute.
Riley Carroll made a long run up the right side and cut a cross to
Cianna Elmazaj, who registered her first goal as a Ram in her first game at Rose Hill.
The offense continued to roll in the second half, as Fordham made it a three-goal game in the 52
nd minute, Frankl got loose again on a run, finding Carroll on the right side of the box. Carroll then laced a shot inside the left post for her first collegiate goal.
Fordham capped the scoring in the 74
th minute on a free kick by Monahan, as she blasted a shot from 20 yards that hit the crossbar and went into the net for her second marker of the game. Her multi-goal game was the first by a Ram since
Kristen Cocozza had two against Rhode Island in the 2020-21 spring season.
Fordham out shot Wagner by a 20-8 count in the match. In net,
Kyla King recorded two saves for Fordham for her second career shutout, while Wagner's Sam Hughes was credited with six saves.
The win for the Rams was their first home opening win since 2016, while the four-goal performance had not happened since September 2018 against Davidson.
Fordham will next be in action on Thursday, August 24
th, when the team hosts Stonehill at 4:00 PM in the first half of a soccer doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field.
