Women’s Tennis Holds End-of-Year Awards Luncheon

Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis squad wrapped up their historic season at MichaelAngelo's Pizza & Restaurant on Arthur Avenue this last Tuesday with its second annual End-of-Year Awards luncheon. Five seniors were celebrated for their success and commitments, as well as three achievement awards were presented for success both on and off the tennis court.

"This has been an extraordinary year for Fordham Women's Tennis and I love that we get to come together and celebrate both the seniors and some of our individual accomplishments. I started this tradition several years ago with the men's program and I'm so happy we can continue it with the women's team. What a great way to wrap up a great year!" said Director of Tennis Michael Sowter.

The Spirit Award, which is given to the student-athlete that demonstrates sportsmanship, leadership, motivation and integrity, was awarded to graduate senior Lindsay Hung. One of the most vocal and spirited members of the team, Lindsay made an immediate impact on the team with her tireless work ethic and fierce competitiveness. Lindsay served as the women's team captain and went undefeated in her last eight matches of the season.

Junior Eleni Fasoula received the team's Most Improved Player Award. Playing in five different positions in 2021-22, Eleni showed significant improvement as she competed in the top half of the lineup all year, finishing with 15 singles wins. During the spring, Eleni went 9-4 at #3 singles and clinched the deciding match at the A10 Conference Championship in straight sets.

The Player of the Year Award was presented to graduate senior Carlota Casasampere Escoda. In her final season with the Rams, Carlota completed the year with a team-high record of 22 wins in singles, including an eight match win streak. Carlota was the only member of the women's team to compete in every fall and spring contest, and was awarded A-10 Player of the Week on April 25th.
