Swimming & Diving Remains Near Top On Day 2 of Bucknell Invitational

Rams Record Nine Event Wins on Day Two Along With Three School Records

Lewisburg, Pa. – (December 2, 2023) – It was another incredible day of competition for the Fordham swimming & diving team at the Bucknell Invitational, as both the men's and women's team are near the top of the team standings.
 
In the women's competition, Fordham has 919.5 points through day two, trailing only Connecticut's 1,067.5 points, and ahead of Bucknell (877), Davidson (792), Johns Hopkins (502), UMBC (390), and Bloomsburg (140).
 
For the men, the Rams are at 728 points in third place, behind host Bucknell at 807 and Johns Hopkins at 729, while being ahead of UMBC (721), Davidson (720), and Bloomsburg (406).
 
The night of finals began with a pair of event wins for the Rams in the 200 medley relay.  The women's team of Jane Brown, Emma Shaughnessy, Jessica Zebrowski, and Manon Compagner took first in a season-best time of 1:40.58, while the men's team of Christian Taylor, Noah Althoff, Guy Gropper, and Alexander Shah, won the event in a school and pool record of 1:28.04.  The previous Fordham record was 1:28.28, set last season.
 
Next up were the finals of the 400 individual medley, where Ainhoa Martin won the event in a season-best time of 4:17.08, while Leire Martin took third in 4:21.95.  Emilie Krog scored 10th in the event at 4:28.24 with Alison Lin in 12th (4:29.75), Tera Brilmyer in 15th (4:34.62), and Miranda Bonitatebus in 19th (4:35.54).  On the men's side, Johnny Heinz scored 22nd in 4:10.71.
 
The 100 butterfly was next with Fordham picking up another event win on the women's side, as Compagner grabbed first place in a season-best time of 53.88 seconds with Zebrowski grabbing third in 54.01 seconds.  Hope Nolan scored 12th at 57.43 with Mia Galat in 14th (58.01) and Maddie Wambach tying for 18th (58.50).  On the men's side, Gropper placed third in the event in 48.13 seconds, while Vitalis Onu was fifth at 48.76 seconds.  Len Ray also found the scoring column for the Rams in 11th place (50.06) with Ryan Davidoff in 14th (50.32) and Ryan Staunch in 22nd (51.62).
 
In the 200 freestyle, Emilie Krog won the "B" final for ninth place in 1:52.49, while Ellen Lange (1:56.10) and Zoei Howard (1:56.75) were 23rd and 24th, respectively.  For the men, Wojciech Dutkowiak finished in second with his second school record of the weekend at 1:37.04, breaking the previous mark of 1:37.44, set by his teammate Alex Wilhelm last year.  Taz Kanjanakaset also scored in the event in 13th (1:42.67) with Jesse Abramson in 16th (1:42.95).
 
The 100 breaststroke was a 1-2 finish for Fordham, as Emma Shaughnessy won the event in 1:01.95 with A. Martin in second at 1:02.27.  Therese Enriquez added to the scoring in 18th (1:06.78) with Nolan in 20th (1:07.36) and Alicia Angelone Lopez in 24th (1:08.18).  Althoff made it a Fordham sweep, as he won the men's event in 54.63 seconds, followed by Daniel Langlois taking fourth in 55.39 seconds.  David Topi continued the scoring in 14th at 56.98 seconds, while Ryan Hong was 20th (58.35).
 
Jane Brown earned Fordham's fifth women's event won on the night, taking first in the 100 backstroke at 54.18 seconds, while L. Martin was third in 55.42 seconds.  Christian Taylor completed a Fordham sweep in the 100 backstroke, winning the men's event in 48.34 seconds.  Michael Biryukov then won the "B" final for ninth place (50.64) with Bryce Wilkens in 14th (51.68).  Brian Desmond completed the scoring by winning the "C" final for 17th place (50.24).
 
The final individual event was the women's one-meter dive, where Mya Bokerman took third with a score of 247.75.  Fordham's remaining divers also scored in the event with Molly Farrell in 12th (211.80), Mya Sharkey in 14th (200.95), Cai Flowers in 16th (195.65), Javi Garcia Novas in 18th (187.95), Ella Esposito in 20th (179.55), Maia Cacchione in 21st (179.35), and Madison Wong in 22nd (179.25).
 
The last event of the night was the 800 freestyle relay, where Fordham's women's team of Compagner, Lin, A. Martin, and L. Martin won the event in a time of 7:27.13.  Then the men's team of Wilhelm, Althoff, Onu, and Dutkowiak took home second place with a school record time of 6:35.86, breaking the previous mark of 6:37.94 set last year.
 
The final day of the Bucknell Invitational starts with preliminaries at 10:00 AM on Sunday.
