Lewisburg, Pa. – (December 1, 2023) – It was an exciting first day of competition for the Fordham swimming & diving team at the Bucknell Invitational, as both the men's and women's team sit in second place.
In the women's competition, Fordham has 373 points, trailing only Connecticut's 454 points, and ahead of Davidson (345), Bucknell (298), Johns Hopkins (298), UMBC (183), and Bloomsburg (62).
For the men, the Rams scored 342 points, behind only host Bucknell at 401, and ahead of UMBC (322), Davidson (298), Johns Hopkins (275), and Bloomsburg (159).
The night of finals began with a pair of event wins for the Rams in the 200 freestyle relay. The women's team of
Jessica Zebrowski,
Jane Brown,
Zoei Howard, and
Manon Compagner took first in a season-best time of 1:32.77, while the men's team of
Christian Taylor,
Alexander Shah,
Noah Althoff, and
Guy Gropper missed a school record by .04 seconds, winning the event in 1:20.18.
Next up were the finals of the 500 freestyle, where Fordham had three finalists for the women with the men having four.
Emilie Krog was the top female, winning the "B" final for ninth place in 4:57.55 with
Ellen Brooks in 20
th (5:08.77) and
Ellen Lange in 22
nd (5:09.69). For the men,
Wojciech Dutkowiak put his name in the Fordham record book, breaking the school record in the 500 freestyle with an event winning time of 4:23.79, besting the previous mark of 4:26.02 by Joseph Vizza in 2017. Additionally,
Jesse Abramson (18
th – 4:40.25),
Ryan Davidoff (20
th – 4:42.21), and
John Koebel (22
nd – 4:45.13) also scored in the event.
The winning continued in the 200 individual medley, as
Ainhoa Martin won the women's event in a season-best time of 2:00.14. It ended up a 1-2 Fordham finish, as
Leire Martin took second in 2:01.18. The Rams had four others score in the women's event, including
Alison Lin (7
th – 2:05.43),
Emma Shaughnessy (13
th – 2:07.03),
Tera Brilmyer (15
th – 2:08.10), and
Hope Nolan (22
nd – 2:09.36). On the men's side, a trio of Rams found the scoring column, led by
Noah Althoff's second place finish in a season-best time of 1:47.98.
Alex Wilhelm scored sixth in 1:51.43 with
Daniel Langlois in 12
th at 1:52.53.
The next swimming event was the 50 freestyle, where Compagner won the Rams' fifth event of the day, taking first in the women's event in 23.03 seconds. Zebrowski grabbed third in the event in 23.47 seconds with Brown in seventh at 23.68. Howard closed out the scoring in 18
th place (24.00). For the men, the Rams had three swimmers score in the top five with Gropper in second (20.14), Taylor in third (20.25), and Shah in fifth (20.49). Additionally,
Vitalis Onu scored 11
th (20.84) with
Taz Kanjanakaset in 12
th (20.86), and
Michael Biryukov in 24
th (21.37).
Over in the diving well, Fordham saw all nine divers score on Friday.
Marco Petit scored eighth in three-meter dive with a score of 206.30, as did
Maia Cacchione in the one-meter dive with a score of 227.50. Other women's one-meter scorers were

The night closed with the 400 medley relay, which ended up as a sour note for the women, as the relay was disqualified for an early exchange. On the men's side, Fordham's team of Taylor, Althoff, Gropper, and Wilhelm were third in 3:17.31.
Day two of the Bucknell Invitational starts with preliminaries at 10:00 AM.
