Women’s Soccer Falls to Saint Joseph’s on Senior Day

Abby Doyle Nets Lone Goal for Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. – (October 15, 2023) – The Fordham women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday, but had the day spoiled by Saint Joseph's Emily Hanrahan, who scored twice in the second half for a 2-1 victory over the Rams at Moglia Stadium.

The loss puts Fordham at 4-8-4 on the year, 2-3-3 in the Atlantic 10, while Saint Joseph's improved to 4-6-6 overall, 4-1-3 in the league.

Fordham opened the scoring in the 31st minute off a corner kick.  Caroline Monahan placed the corner into the center of the box, deflecting off a Saint Joseph's defender.  Abby Doyle then headed down the ball for an initial shot, and then got a second shot off, scoring her second goal of the season inside the right post.

The Rams remained ahead into the second half, but the Hawks knotted the game at one in the 49th minute.  Off a free kick in the defensive end, Nicole Everard chested the free kick to Lauren Hatt.  Hatt then found Emily Hanrahan with a quick through ball in the box for a shot inside the left post for her second goal of the year.

Then, Hanrahan struck again in the 69th minute to give Saint Joseph's a 2-1 advantage.  Everard started the play again in the box, heading the ball back to Sam Dumont near the top of the box.  Dumont laid a pass off to Hanrahan, who then dribbled in and scored from 10 yards out.

The Hawks were able to keep Fordham off the scoresheet the rest of the way with Fordham's best chance coming off the foot of Monahan on a free kick from 22 yards out that was stopped near the left post by goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti.

Cappelletti finished with seven saves for Saint Joseph's, while Fordham goalkeeper Serena Mensah had two saves.

Fordham will next be in action on Thursday, October 19th, when the Rams head to VCU for a 7:00 PM match.
