Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – The Fordham men's soccer team captured a crucial road point in the league standings on Saturday afternoon, playing Massachusetts to a 1-1 draw at Rudd Field.
With the tie, Fordham moves to 6-2-5 on the year, including a 3-2-1 record in Atlantic 10 action. UMass is now 6-4-4 overall with an identical 3-2-1 mark in league play. The two teams entered the weekend tied for third in the A-10 standings. Fordham has two conference matches remaining.
Florian Deletioglu scored Fordham's lone goal on Saturday, giving the Rams an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of action. The senior midfielder from Munich found the back of the net for a team-best seventh time this season, a total that's good enough for third in the league.
Kai Griese registered his team-leading fourth assist of the year on the goal, which came off a corner kick.
Deletioglu took a team-high four shots on the afternoon, a total that was matched by sophomore midfielder Daniel D'Ippolio.
Carter Abbott played all 90 minutes in goal, making three saves.
UMass outshot the Rams, 15-12, on the match, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks earned were 5-4 in favor of the home side.
Fordham led for a majority of the match, moving ahead in the seventh minute and holding onto that 1-0 lead until the 75
th minute, when Nick Zielonka leveled the count with his fourth goal of the season.
The Rams will be off from competition this week before hosting Duquesne on Oct. 21 for Senior Night. Kick-off from Moglia Stadium is set for 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on MSG and ESPN+.
