Bronx, N.Y. – (January 21, 2023) – The Fordham swimming & diving teams got their second semester off to a great start, sending off their senior and graduate student classes with a tri-meet sweep on Senior Day over La Salle and Richmond at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
The Fordham men defeated La Salle by a score of 161-129, while the women topped Richmond, 176-121, and La Salle, 188-111.
For the men, the meet began and ended with relay wins. In the 200 medley relay,
Christian Taylor,
Paris Raptis,
Vitalis Onu, and
Taras Zherebetskyy took first in 1:32.21, while Raptis, Taylor,
Nicholas Chao, and Zherebetskyy took first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:03.53.
Taylor followed with an individual event win in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 50.28, while
Kevin Zahariev took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.64 seconds.
Raptis finished with a pair of individual wins, taking first in the 200 butterfly (1:49.27) and 100 butterfly (49.94) events.
Other event wins for the men came from Chao in the 50 freestyle (21.26),
Daniel Langlois in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.50), and
Alex Wilhelm in the 200 individual medley (1:53.09).
Like the men, the Fordham women kicked off the meet with a relay win, as
Leire Martin,
Emma Shaughnessy,
Jessica Zebrowski, and
Zoei Howard won the 200 medley relay in 1:44.90.
Then, Fordham had a stellar showing from
Ainhoa Martin, who won three individual events. She placed first in the 100 (1:04.58) and 200 breaststroke (2:17.09), as well as in the 200 individual medley (2:04.59).
The Rams also had Zebrowski, L. Martin, and
Millie Haffety earn two event wins each. Zebrowski swept the butterfly events in times of 56.12 seconds and 2:04.81, while Martin swept the backstroke events in 56.38 seconds and 2:01.76. Haffety also earned a sweep in the diving events, scoring 272.20 on the one-meter board and a school record mark of 313.08 on the three-meter board. That score bested her own school record mark of 311.70, set on October 21
st.
The final event win for the Rams came from
Clare Culver, who won the 500 freestyle event in 5:07.75.
The Rams will next be in action on Wednesday, January 25
th, when they host Iona at 5:00 PM.
