Baseball Hosts Siena on Tuesday

Rams Looks To Snap Nine-Game Slide Versus Saints

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 21, 2022) – Another busy week for the Fordham baseball team begins on Tuesday afternoon, as the Rams host the Siena Saints at Houlihan Park for a 3:00 PM game.

Fordham (2-15) looks to break out of a nine-game slide, the team's longest since a nine-game skid in 2017.  Siena (2-14) has also had a rough start to 2022, and most recently was swept in the three-game series at #24 Maryland.

PROBABLE STARTERS/GAME COVERAGE:

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 23rd all-time meeting between Fordham and Siena, and first since 2019, where Siena won that game, 12-0.  Prior to that, Fordham had won three of the previous four meetings.

LAST TIME OUT: Marist's Alex Pansini tossed 7.2 innings of five-hit ball, while Drake Quinn stopped a potential ninth-inning rally by the Fordham Rams, as the Red Foxes posted a 2-0 win over the Rams on Sunday afternoon.

The only two runs of the game came in the second inning, as Marist loaded the bases on two walks and a single with no outs.  Marco Ali plated the opening run with a sacrifice fly, and later got another run on an RBI-single by Gene Napolitano.

Fordham held Marist to just those two runs, turning a pair of double plays and getting clutch relief performances by Gabe Karslo and Ben Kovel.  Karlso threw 5.2 scoreless innings of five-hit relief with seven strikeouts, while Kovel added two shutout innings of relief, allowing one hit with two strikeouts

The Rams were held in check by Marist starting pitcher Alex Pansini, as he struck out eight batters over 7.2 innings of work, allowing five hits.

Fordham's scoring chances came few and far between.  In the first inning, Andy Semo ripped a double to right center and reach third on a wild pitch with two outs.  However, he did not score, as Jack Harnisch struck out to end the inning.

Then in the eighth inning, Jake Guercio and Cian Sahler reached base on back-to-back singles with two outs, and got into scoring position for Sebastian Mexico.  Marist went to the bullpen for Brian Yetter and got Mexico to swing at the first pitch and fly out to end the threat.  The Rams tried to rally a final time in the ninth, as Harnisch dew a one-out walk, while Selinger doubled to right center to put runners at second and third.  However, Drake Quinn struck out Will Findlay and Chris Genaro to end the game and record his second save of the season.

For Fordham, Semo was 2-for-4 with a double, while Selinger, Findlay, Guercio, and Sahler having the remaining hits for the Rams.  Nolan Hughes (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on a hit and five walks over 1.1 innings.

HEATING UP: Over the last 10 games, Zach Selinger is batting .353 (12-34) for the Rams with five doubles and five RBI… Jake Guercio is hitting .318 (7-22) over his last nine games with four runs scored… Andy Semo is at .296 (8-27) with a home run and five RBI in his last nine games… Chris Genaro hit a pair of home runs on Saturday against Marist, becoming the first Ram with a multi-home run game since Nick Labella did so at Massachusetts on May 13, 2018.

HOULIHAN PARK TO HOST 2022 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP: For the fifth time, Fordham University's Houlihan Park will play host to the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2022.  The Championship will take place May 24-28.  Previously, Houlihan Park hosted the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2006, 2012, 2016, and 2019.  The Rams hope to repeat the most recent result in 2019, when Fordham captured the league crown for the first time since 1998.

WHO'S NEXT: The Rams will next be in action on March 25th, when Fordham begins a three-game series against Monmouth at Houlihan Park.
