Baseball Begins Busy Week on Wednesday Against Wagner

Rams Looks To Snap Five-Game Slide Versus Seahawks

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 15, 2022) – Following a week where weather caused some havoc with the schedule, the Fordham baseball team looks to get back on the track this week as the Rams host the Wagner Seahawks on Wednesday at Houlihan Park.

Fordham (2-11) looks to break out of a five-game losing streak on Wednesday, the team's longest since a nine-game skid in 2018.  Wagner (1-12) is also looking to get out of a tough start to 2022, as the Seahawks have dropped nine straight games, which includes three losses to USC, three to #4 Vanderbilt, and one to Rutgers.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 71st all-time meeting between Fordham and Wagner.  The series goes back to 1947 with Fordham holding a 51-19 record against the Seahawks.  The last meeting was on March 11, 2020, where the Rams took home an 11-5 win at Houlihan Park.  That game would be the final game of the 2020 season, as the pandemic shutdown was enacted two days later.

LAST TIME OUT: The Fordham baseball team was unable to find an answer in their two contests on Friday at Houlihan Park against the LIU Sharks and Yale Bulldogs.

The day opened with the Rams dropping a 9-4 decision to the Sharks, as E.J. Exposito hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the win.  LIU also got home runs from Colin Adams and Luke Turner, as the Sharks had four total in the game.

Sharks' starting pitcher Joshua Loeschorn improved to 3-0 on the year, allowing two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts over six innings of work for the win.

Fordham scored single runs in the first, third, sixth, and eighth innings, highlighted by a solo home run by Jack Harnisch in the first inning, as he went 2-for-4 in the contest.  Andy Semo had an RBI-single in the third inning with T.J. Wachter having a sacrifice fly in the eighth.  The Rams' run in sixth inning was generated by Jason Coules, who singled, stole second and third, and scored on an errant pickoff attempt.

In game two on Friday, Yale's Mike Walsh struck out nine batters over six innings, allowing just one unearned run, as the Bulldogs took home the 11-2 win over the Rams.

The Bulldogs got out to a quick start with a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-run home run by Carson Swank.  Yale then scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, and three times in the sixth to build an eight-run advantage that they would not relinquish.

Fordham's runs came in the sixth and eighth innings on an RBI-ground out by Wachter and a Yale error.

HOULIHAN PARK TO HOST 2022 ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP: For the fifth time, Fordham University's Houlihan Park will play host to the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2022.  The Championship will take place May 24-28.  Previously, Houlihan Park hosted the Atlantic 10 Championship in 2006, 2012, 2016, and 2019.  The Rams hope to repeat the most recent result in 2019, when Fordham captured the league crown for the first time since 1998.

WHO'S NEXT: The Rams will next be in action on March 18th, when Fordham begins a three-game series against Marist at Houlihan Park.
