Mike Breen, a 1983 Fordham graduate and the voice of the NBA on ESPN and ABC, was honored with the prestigious Vin Scully Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting at WFUV's On the Record Dinner, held at the Lincoln Center Campus on Nov. 1.

Breen, who is also the lead play-by-play announcer for the New York Knicks on MSG Networks, headlined a star-studded event that brought together generations of notable Fordham alumni and revered names in the world of sports.

Michael Kay, a 1982 Fordham graduate and longtime play-by-play voice of the New York Yankees, presented his close friend with the Scully Award.  Kay, who received the Scully Award in 2018, recalled their time together as undergraduates on the Rose Hill Campus and praised Breen's unimpeachable character.

"You could go to anybody, in any part of this industry—there is not one person, not one person that has anything bad to say about Mike Breen," said Kay. "So he and Vin Scully go together. He's that sort of guy. He just treats people the way he'd want his children to be treated. And that's special in this industry."

In addition to Kay, fellow Fordham and WFUV alumni Ryan Ruocco and Connell McShane were in attendance.

Several members of the Fordham Athletic Department helped honor Breen at the event, including Athletic Director Ed Kull, Men's Basketball Head Coach Keith Urgo and Women's Basketball Interim Head coach Candice Green.  Men's basketball student-athlete Darius Quisenberry, also an aspiring broadcaster in addition to his on-court accolades, attended the dinner as well.
