Queens, N.Y. – After a two-hour rain delay, Fordham University president Tania Tetlow threw out an honorary first pitch at Citi Field prior to the Mets' season finale on Wednesday evening, caught by Director of Athletics
Ed Kull, while the 2022 Fordham softball team was honored for winning last year's Atlantic 10 Championship.
Â
It wasn't the first time a sitting president had thrown out a first pitch nor was it the first time softball had been recognized for a title. However, it was the first time both had happened in Queens. Father Joseph McShane tossed out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium in 2009, while the 2014 Rams were honored prior to a game in the Bronx.
Â
Tetlow, whose
inauguration on the Rose Hill campus is next Friday, October 14
th, is the first layperson and first woman to lead Fordham University in its 181-year history. Her tenure began on July 1
st.
Â
Softball earned a ninth Atlantic 10 championship and 10
th trip to NCAA Regionals in May after concluding the regular season with a 30-20 overall record, 15-7 in league play, to secure the second seed. Fordham went on to play at the Stillwater Regional, hosted by #7 Oklahoma State, playing the Cowgirls and North Texas.
