Men’s Soccer Hosts Loyola Chicago on Senior Day

Rams Face Ramblers with Atlantic 10 Championship Berth on the Line

Bronx, N.Y. – (October 28, 2022) – The Fordham men's soccer season comes down to the final game of the regular season, as the Rams are still alive for an Atlantic 10 Championship berth, as they host the Ramblers of Loyola Chicago on Saturday for Senior Day for the first time as league opponents.  A win for either team will most likely clinch a berth in next week's championship tournament.

Fordham (3-3-9, 1-1-5 A10) is coming a 3-2 loss to Princeton on Tuesday night, where the Rams almost pulled off another comeback.  Timo Hummrich and Ben Shepherd netted goals for Fordham, while Demetri Skoumbakis had three saves in net.  With his goal on Tuesday, Hummrich now has three goals and two assists in his last five contests.

Loyola Chicago (6-2-6, 2-2-3 A10) is unbeaten in its last five contests, posting a 1-0-4 record, with the last two matches against Rhode Island and Cleveland State being 1-1 draws.  Offensively, Billy Hency is the team's leading scorer with six goals and seven assists for 19 points, while in net, Simon Jillson has seen most of the action, appearing in 14 matches with a 0.81 goals against average and five shutouts.

LAST TIME OUT: Princeton's Mateo Godoy netted a pair of goals on Tuesday night to lift the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Fordham Rams at Jack Coffey Field.

Fordham opened the scoring in the 18th minute, as an attempted clear in the box by Princeton's Giuliano Whitchurch went right to Fordham's Timo Hummrich, who quickly drilled a shot into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Princeton answered that goal with three markers over a 14-minute span.  First, Mateo Godoy tied the game in the 25th minute on a free kick that squeezed its way through two different walls of players from 18 yards out.

Godoy then made it 2-1 just moments later, as he received a pass from Nico Nee, and scored to the right side of the net.

The Tigers then capped the first half outburst in the 38th minute, when Francis Akomeah knocked in a rebound off an initial shot by Daniel Ittycheria.

Fordham got back within one at 3-2 in the 86th minute, as off a Princeton defender, Ben Shepherd collected the loose ball and lobbed a shot into the net over a drawn out goalkeeper.  It was his third goal of the year.

The Rams did have a chance to tie the game in the 88th minute, but Bennett Leitner's shot was snagged by Khamari Hadaway to give the Tigers the victory.

NEWCOMERS SHOWING OUT: Fordham has seen the newest additions to the roster for the 2022 season contribute early and often.  Newcomers have accounted for 18 of the 24 goals on the season, led by freshman Nathan Simes with five.  The Rams also have four goals from Timo Hummrich, three goals by Daniel Espeleta and Ben Shepherd, and single markers for Paolo Primavera, Jakob Gesien, and Daniel D'Ippolito on the year.

FIT TO BE TIED: With the decision to not play overtime during the regular season, the men's soccer season has seen plenty of draws this season and Fordham has been no exception.  The Rams have played to a tie score on nine occasions in 2022, which is already a program record.  The previous high was five in 2005 and 2006.  The nine draws has also matched the NCAA record, set by four different teams, including Providence (2005), St. John's (2009), South Florida (2013), and UC Davis (2014).RamsesChallengeMS10
