th meeting for the Rams and Black Knights with Army holding a 6-1-2 series lead. It is the first match-up between the two teams since 2013 – a 1-1 draw at Jack Coffey Field.
KENNEDY NAMED A-10 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (8/30): The Atlantic 10 Conference released its weekly women's soccer awards on Monday with Fordham junior forward
Caitlin Kennedy being named the league's Offensive Player of the Week. This was Kennedy's first career weekly honor.
Kennedy put together her best week as a Ram, scoring the first two goals of her career over Fordham's two contests this past week. On Thursday, she made her first career goal a memorable one, netting the overtime game-winning goal in the Battle of the Bronx at Manhattan. She then had the Rams' second goal on Sunday against Fairleigh Dickinson.
LAST TIME OUT (8/29): After pulling off a come-from-behind win on Thursday, the Fordham Rams found themselves in the same scenario on Sunday in the women's soccer home opener at Jack Coffey Field against Fairleigh Dickinson. Unfortunately, the Rams' rally came up one short, falling to the Knights, 3-2.
Caitlin Kennedy
The Knights opened the scoring early in the fourth minute, as Alexiane Marquis got off a right-footed shot that floated into the top right corner of goal for her first marker of the season.
The FDU lead increased to 2-0 in the 38th minute when Madelyn Robbins beat Fordham goalkeeper
Serena Mensah off a pass by Helena Lehr from the right wing. Lehr then made it a 3-0 score in the 56th minute, as she put home a rebound off a Gina Steiner shot.
The Rams then scored twice in the span of seven minutes to close within one with ten minutes left in regulation. First,
Kendall Dandridge got a pass to
Hope Baisley on the right side of the box, who quickly left it back for
Emma Johnson to hammer home a left-footed shot for her first of the season. Then,
Alexandra Taylor set
Caitlin Kennedy loose down the left side, who lobbed a shot over an onrushing goalkeeper, for her second goal in as many games.
Fordham however was unable to get the equalizer in the final ten minutes, as
Jenna Devine's attempt in the closing seconds went high and wide of the goal. In net, Mensah made her first career start for the Rams, registering three saves, while Malene Nielsen had a pair of stops for the Knights.
FOREIGN IMPORTS: The Rams have spread their recruiting across the globe with five internationals on the team in 2021, representing the United Kingdom (
Emma Johnson), Ireland (
Maria O'Sullivan), Canada (
Claudia Cuicani), Israel (
Tal Faingezicht), and Sweden (
Ellen Schedin). Fordham also has international experience with
Danielle Etienne, who has seen time with the Haitian National Team.
WHO'S NEXT: The Rams return to Jack Coffey Field for a pair of home games next week as Fordham will host St. Francis Brooklyn on September 9 and Quinnipiac on September 12 at Jack Coffey Field.
