Fordham Athletics Announces Partnership with the Fordham Sports Analytics Society

Rams to work with student-run research teams

Bronx, N.Y. - Sports fans have recently witnessed the role of analytics expand rapidly across the landscape of professional and collegiate athletics. This wave of data-driven thinking has allowed teams and athletes to gain a significant advantage over their opponents, improving their odds of putting a winning product on the field. For the past decade, professional sports teams have had the luxury of dedicating entire departments to the statistical analysis of their players and those around the league. At the collegiate level, this same phenomenon has taken shape – only on a much smaller scale and at the margins.

Fordham Athletics is excited to announce our partnership with the Fordham Sports Analytics Society. This partnership will allow Fordham University to become one of the select few universities with access to full-fledged student-run research teams for varsity sports including, but not limited to, baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, and women's soccer.

"In the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, analytics plays a crucial role in the success of a program," said Ed Kull, Director of Athletics. "I am thrilled to be partnering with the Fordham Sports Analytics Society to bring this technology to our Fordham Athletics programs. Our Fordham students are full of innovative ideas and technical expertise and we are excited to collaborate with them to continue the Fordham Athletics tradition."

The student analysts will be involved in the collection, manipulation, analysis, and/or reporting of player and team data for various sport-specific research projects. The projects will range from scouting reports on opposing teams to reports on current trends in collegiate sports.
