Rams’ Rally Comes Up Just Short Against FDU

Emma Johnson & Caitlin Kennedy Net Goals in 3-2 Loss

Bronx, N.Y. – (August 29, 2021) – After pulling off a come-from-behind win on Thursday, the Fordham Rams found themselves in the same scenario on Sunday in the women's soccer home opener at Jack Coffey Field against Fairleigh Dickinson.  Unfortunately, the Rams' rally came up one short, falling to the Knights, 3-2.

The Knights opened the scoring early in the fourth minute, as Alexiane Marquis got off a right-footed shot that floated into the top right corner of goal for her first marker of the season.

The FDU lead increased to 2-0 in the 38th minute when Madelyn Robbins beat Fordham goalkeeper Serena Mensah off a pass by Helena Lehr from the right wing.

Caitlin Kennedy lobs a shot for her 2nd goal.

Lehr then made it a 3-0 score in the 56th minute, as she put home a rebound off a Gina Steiner shot.

The Rams then scored twice in the span of seven minutes to close within one with ten minutes left in regulation.  First, Kendall Dandridge got a pass to Hope Baisley on the right side of the box, who quickly left it back for Emma Johnson to hammer home a left-footed shot for her first of the season.  Then, Alexandra Taylor set Caitlin Kennedy loose down the left side, who lobbed a shot over an onrushing goalkeeper, for her second goal in as many games.

Fordham however was unable to get the equalizer in the final ten minutes, as Jenna Devine's attempt in the closing seconds went high and wide of the goal.

In net, Mensah made her first career start for the Rams, registering three saves, while Malene Nielsen had a pair of stops for the Knights.

The Rams will next be in action on Thursday, September 2nd, when the squad travels to Marist for a 7:00 PM start.
