Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – (September 2, 2021) – It was a match of inches on Thursday night between the Fordham Rams and Marist Red Foxes, as the goals scored either hit a post, a crossbar, or just crossed the goal line. Unfortunately for the Rams, Marist got the final tally to take a 2-1 win in women's soccer action at Tenney Field in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
After 44 minutes without a goal, the teams traded goals in the final minute of the first half. First, it was the Rams getting on the scoreboard, as
Caitlin Kennedy continued her scoring assault, netting a goal in her third straight game, becoming the first Ram to do so since Brooke Salmon in the final three games of the 2016 season.
Jenna Devine got the ball in to Kennedy, where she fended of a Marist defender for a 20-yard shot that went in off the left post.
Less than 30 seconds later, the Red Foxes knotted the game at one. Bridget Dudziec put a long cross to the left side of the box, where Riley Abate took a shot from 20 yards that went off the crossbar and went down, just crossing the goal line for the tying marker.

In the second half, Marist grabbed a 2-1 edge in the 69
th minute, when Brooke Cergol poked a shot that went through the hands of Fordham goalkeeper
Serena Mensah, touched the left post, and trickled over the line.
Fordham battled hard over the final 20 minutes to find the equalizer and almost got it in the 89
th minute. After a foul,
Tal Faingezicht put a free kick right on the six-yard box with Kennedy cutting across in front of the net. However, the ball just missed Kennedy and was grabbed by the Marist keeper to hold on for the 2-1 decision.
In net, Mensah made one save for Fordham, while Natalie Kelchner totaled six saves for the Red Foxes, as the Rams finished with a 13-12 shot advantage in the match.
The Rams are back on the pitch this Sunday, September 5
th, when the squad travels to Army for a 1:00 PM match.
