Kennedy’s OT Game-Winner Completes Comeback Win Against Manhattan

Junior Forward Nets First Career Goal to Win the Battle of the Bronx

Riverdale, N.Y. – (August 26, 2021) – When it comes to any Battle of the Bronx match-up between Fordham and Manhattan, you just never know what special moment might come next or who the next hero will be.  On Thursday night, junior forward Caitlin Kennedy became the latest Fordham hero, netting the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Rams a 2-1 victory over the Jaspers in women's soccer action at Gaelic Park.

Fordham (1-2) trailed for most of the match, as Manhattan scored in 12th minute on an Eve Montgomery shot that hit the right post and trickled over the goal line.

The deficit did not deter the Rams, who peppered the Jaspers' defense all night long to the tune of 32 shots and 11 corner kicks.

Fordham evened the match in the 80th minute off a Marissa Krenn throw-in.  Alexandra Taylor received the throw-in and booted the ball 25 yards from the right wing.  The ball floated over the keeper into the side netting for her first goal of the season to tie the game.

The match then delved into overtime, when Kennedy came through with a heads up play in the 99th minute.  After play was stopped and a drop ball was given to Manhattan, Kennedy jumped the Manhattan defender immediately and stole the ball.  She then blasted a shot past the keeper from 20 yards out into the right side of goal for her first collegiate marker.

In net, Maggie Grossman earned her first career win, making two saves, while Manhattan keeper Kim Mains had nine saves in the loss.

Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, August 29th, when the Rams have their home opener against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at noon.
