Women’s Soccer Falls to Colgate in 2021 Opener

Maggie Grossman Makes Four Stops for the Rams

Hamilton, N.Y. – (August 19, 2021) – Playing through rainy conditions through most of the contest, the Fordham Rams put forth a strong effort in the team's opener at Colgate on Thursday.  However, a 13th minute goal for the Raiders spoiled the match for the Rams, falling by a 1-0 count, at Beyer-Small Field in Hamilton, N.Y.

The only goal of the game came at the 13:00 mark, as Colgate's Ally Giovino tucked a shot inside the right post from eight yards with assists going to Adrienne Vaughn and Hannah Pinkus.

The Rams thought they found the equalizer in the second half in the 60th minute.  Marissa Krenn took a corner kick from the near side that went over the goalkeeper and bounced on the goal line.  The Rams celebrated but after a conversation with the referee and the linesperson, it was determined that the ball did not completely cross the line, thus the game remained a 1-0 score.

Fordham goalkeeper Maggie Grossman kept the Rams within striking distance, making three of her four saves in the second half, but the Rams were unable to get the tying marker.

Colgate finished with a 14-6 shot advantage in the match.  Alexandra Taylor led the Fordham attack with two shots on net.

Fordham will next be in action on Sunday, August 22nd, when the Rams meet the Binghamton Bearcats in Binghamton for a 1:00 PM start.
