2021 Block F Special Awards – Virtual Style

Even though the COVID canceled the 2021 Block F Awards Dinner it will not stop us from recognizing the outstanding student-athletes from 2020-2021. As we did last year, instead of gathering in the historic Rose Hill Gym each winner will be honored online, from team MVPs to all the special award winners. We know that it's not the same, but we want all the student-athletes to know that we thank you for your hard work and dedication.

Bronx, N.Y. - We continue with the 2021 Block F Special Awards today as we present the Iron Major Award to head men's soccer coach Carlo Acquista.

The "Iron Major" Award is presented to honor the "Coach of the Year", as selected by his or her fellow coaches.  The award is named for Hall of Fame member and former football coach Frank Cavanaugh, the first in a long line of nationally famous Fordham coaches.

In just his second season at the helm, Acquista guided the men's soccer squad, who played in the spring due to COVID, to an undefeated regular season mark of 5-0-2, 3-0-2 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams entered the Atlantic 10 Championship as the third seed and proceeded to knock off second-seeded Saint Louis and fourth-seeded George Washington to capture the 2020-2021 A-10 title.

The A-10 title advanced Fordham to the NCAA Championship where the Rams fell in the second round to eventual national champions, Marshall University, 2-1, in overtime.

The Rams' success was noted nationally as the Rams finished the year ranked #22 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, one spot up from the pre-NCAA Championship poll, while in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll, the Rams were #25.
