Even though the COVID canceled the 2021 Block F Awards Dinner it will not stop us from recognizing the outstanding student-athletes from 2020-2021. As we did last year, instead of gathering in the historic Rose Hill Gym each winner will be honored online, from team MVPs to all the special award winners. We know that it's not the same, but we want all the student-athletes to know that we thank you for your hard work and dedication.
Bronx, N.Y. - We continue with the 2021 Block F Special Awards today as we present the Jack Coffey Award, named for a former athletic director, to the current director of athletics,
Ed Kull.
Â
The Jack Coffey award is presented to a Fordham administrator, alumnus or coach for outstanding contributions and dedication to the athletic program. It is named for the late Jack Coffey, long-time baseball coach and graduate manager of Athletics.
Â
Kull took over as interim athletic director in May of 2020 and guided the athletic department through both a pandemic, which shut down all athletic activities, and racial and societal injustices that plagued our nation and community. He helped the Rams navigate the ups and downs COVID-19 introduced to the world of intercollegiate athletics and ensured that when play returned, it was with safety of the student-athlete at the forefront.
Â
Last summer, Kull helped the Fordham Athletics department engage in open, honest, and difficult dialogue with the student-athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators. From these conversations, a task force of Fordham Athletics administrators, coaches, and student-athletes formed to create a plan to address and combat systemic racism.
Â
These conversations and discussions have led to the Fordham Athletics #OneRamily Social Justice Plan, which strives to create a more inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment for the entire Fordham Athletics community.
