Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's tennis team traveled to Philadelphia on Friday and were about as perfect as they could be, winning all contested matches in a 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's University at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Rams opened play winning the doubles point, taking both contested doubles matches by identical 6-3 scores.
Arina Taluyenko and
Maia Balce teamed up to take first doubles from Amanda Nava and Stow Weiss while
Nicole Li and
Eleni Fasoula were winners over Paige Conrad and Anna Kirk at the second position.
Fordham then won all five contested singles matches for the 6-1 win.
Genevieve Quenville got it started at fourth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Amanda Kramer before Balce defeated Weiss at the No. 2 spot, 6-1, 6-3. Li clinched the match for the Rams when she upended Sophia Amato at fifth singles and then
Eleni Fasoula was a 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 winner over Fabiana Tort-Umpierre at the third position.
Arina Taluyenko was the lone Ram to play three sets, taking the first from Nava at first singles before dropping the second, 6-3. But Taluyenko came back to win the third set, 6-2.
The Rans, 5-1 in the spring, return to action on Saturday, April 10, as they host the University of Rhode Island on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 2:30 p.m.
