Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team hosted the University of Rhode Island on Saturday and the short-handed Rams saw their five-game winning streak halted with a 5-2 loss to the other Atlantic 10 Rams on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.
With only five players available, the odds were stacked against Fordham from the beginning. Rhode Island took the doubles point as the two teams split the two completed matches, with
Eleni Fasoula and
Nicole Li taking second doubles from Sydney Chratian and Tiara Higuchi, 7-5, but the visitors won the third spot by default.
Fordham took first singles with
Arina Taluyenko, who rebounded from her first loss of the spring, to defeat Nadia Rajan, 6-4, 6-2, and the fifth position as Li upended Paulina Loredo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. But those would be the only points of the day for Fordham.
The Rams, 5-2 in the spring, return to action on Friday, April 16, as they host Temple University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 3:00 p.m.
