Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's tennis team made the trip down Route 95 to Philadelphia today where the Rams knocked off Drexel, 4-3, at the Vidas Courts.
The Rams opened play by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Arina Taluyenko and
Maia Balce got it started with a 6-3 win at first doubles over Sarka Richterova and Aida Garcia Mendez and
Rachelle Yang and
Genevieve Quenville cinched the point for Fordham when they defeated Pauline Kharkover and Marta Martinez at the third position, 6-4.
The two teams then split the six singles matches to give the Rams a 4-3 win. Balce was victorious over Cristina Corte Gonzales at second singles, 7-6 (3), 6-2;
Eleni Fasoula took third singles from Isabel Cabrerizo in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5; and
Nicole Li defeated Kharkover at the sixth spot, 6-2, 6-3.
The Rams, 4-1 on the spring, will return to action on Friday, April 9, as they return to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's University at 3:00 p.m.
