Ellington, Conn. – The Fordham golf team wrapped up play at the Connecticut Cup on Saturday, finishing fifth out of 12 schools at Ellington Ridge Country Club. Sophomore
John Kryscio finished T9 to lead the Rams after spending much of the day within striking distance of the lead. Boston College went wire to wire to take home team honors while their own Brandon Kewalramani won the individual title at 2-over.
Kryscio entered the final round at 2-over. The sophomore birdied the par-3 fourth hole but gave up three strokes on the par-5 fifth. After trade a bogey and a birdie at the ninth and 10
th, respectively, and a bogey at the 11
th, Kryscio tallied one of five eagles during the tournament at the par-5 13
th to get to 1-over on the day and in a share of third. However, he closed out his round at 4-over over his final four holes to finish with a 5-over on the day and a 7-over 223 for the weekend.
Andreas Aivazoglou enjoyed a tremendous final round, turning in one of three under-par scorecards on the day and the second-lowest round at 1-under 71. The sophomore played the front nine at 3-under with four birdies before finishing his final nine holes at 2-over, including a fifth birdie. He moved up to T16 at 10-over 226 for the weekend.
P.J. O'Rourke also enjoyed a superlative third round, carding a 1-over 73 with three birdies, all coming within the first 10 holes, to move up to a share of 29
th with a three-day score of 229.
Tomas Nieves and
Nicholas Manning rounded out Fordham's quintet with scores of 240 and 243, respectively, at T62 and T68, while
Jimmy Bagdonas wrapped up play T71 with a 244 competing as an individual.
The Rams will take part in another one day tournament with the Hartford Invite at Tumble Brook Country Club on Friday, April 9.
