SERIES HISTORY: The Rams and Tigers had only met three times previously, twice in 2019 and once in 2011.  The two teams split the 2019 contests with Towson winning, 8-0 in the first contest, while Fordham took the other by a 6-1 final.  The Rams also won the 2011 match-up by a 16-9 score in a game played in Winston Salem, N.C.

LAST TIME OUT (4/13): Fordham's Nick Labella plated Chris Genaro with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, while six Fordham pitchers combined to strike out 14 batters, as the Rams edged Army West Point, 3-2, at Houlihan Park on Tuesday.

The Black Knights took the initial 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning, getting runs on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly.

Fordham answered with two runs in the fourth to knot the game at two.  Jason Coules singled with one out and advanced to second on an error.  Zach Selinger followed with a single to move Coules to third.  Coules then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Casey Brown to cut the deficit to 2-1.  Selinger the tied the game, as he moved to third on a single by Richard Grund and a scored on a wild pitch.

The score remained tied until the seventh, when Fordham went ahead, 3-2.  Chris Genaro and Nico Boza drew back-to-back walks to start the inning and advanced on a sacrifice by Jake Guercio.  Fordham pinch-hitter then lifted a fly ball to center, which was caught.  Genaro raced home and scored just before Boza was thrown out at third to end the inning.

From there, the Rams' pitching staff closed out the victory, as Joseph Quintal picked up his second save of the season, recording the final three outs of the game.  Cameron Knox (1-1) earned his first collegiate win, tossing two innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits with three strikeouts.  James Springer made the start, tossing a scoreless first inning, while Ben Kovel and Alex Henderson each threw two innings of relief with three strikeouts each.  At the plate, Coules was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base, while Selinger went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

MIKULSKI ACCOLADES CONTINUE TO ROLL IN (4/12): The awards keep on rolling in for Fordham baseball senior pitcher Matt Mikulski, who on Monday was among the National Players of the Week, as selected by Collegiate Baseball.  Mikulski also earned his third consecutive Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week award.  Then on Wednesday, he made the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List presented by USA Baseball.

Mikulski had another superb performance this past Saturday against St. Bonaventure, improving to 5-0 on the season.  He tossed his second consecutive complete game shutout, this time being a seven-inning shutout.  He allowed just one hit, which came in the sixth, and just three baserunners overall, while striking out a career-high 16 batters.  It marked his fourth straight start with double-digit strikeouts, as he moved into fourth place on the Rams' career strikeout list (216), passing former major league Pete Harnisch (213).  Mikulski also extended his scoreless innings streak to 16.2 innings.

On the year, Mikulski is 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 37.2 innings with 68 strikeouts.  He currently leads the conference in ERA (10th nationally), hits allowed per nine innings (3.11 - 5th nationally), strikeouts (7th nationally) and strikeouts per nine innings (16.25 – 3rd nationally).

HELLO OLD FRIEND: The Rams will see a familiar face in the opposing dugout on Saturday in former Ram Billy Godrick, who transferred to Towson this year.  A member of the Rams 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship team, Godrick played in 165 games for the Rams over parts of four seasons, collecting 108 hits, 90 runs scored, 47 RBI, and 56 stolen bases.

OFF TO A GOOD START: With the team at 16-7 on the year, it's no surprise that the Rams' pitching staff is at the forefront.  As of April 15th, Fordham leads the Atlantic 10 with a team 3.17 ERA, which is good for ninth in the NCAA, while also leading the league in hits allowed per nine innings (6.09 – 3rd nationally) and shutouts (4 – T12th nationally).  So far, Fordham's top arms have been a pair of lefties in Matt Mikulski and Garrett Crowley.  Mikulski is 5-0 on the year with a 0.96 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 37.2 inning pitched, while Crowley is 3-1 with a 2.33 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 27 innings.

WHO'S NEXT: The Rams will next be in action on Tuesday, April 20th, when the team travels to Army West Point for a 3:05 PM contest.  After that, Fordham will remain on the road to face Saint Joseph's, April 23-25.
