Trumbull, Conn. – The Fordham men's tennis team didn't let almost a year layoff affect them as they returned to action for the first time this season today and shut out Sacred Heart University, 7-0, at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.

The Rams opened play by taking the doubles point, winning the first two completed doubles matches.
Max Green and
Fabian Mauritzson got things started with a 6-0 blanking of Matthew Nagel and Cameron Goldstein at second doubles before
Tom Russwurm and
Lutwin de Macar clinched the point for Fordham with a 6-2 win at first doubles over Tyler Lowe and Kevin Chao.
The Rams then proceeded to win all six singles matches, commencing with Russwurm, a junior transfer from USC Upstate, picking up his first Fordham singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lowe at the fifth position.
Jofre Segarra followed Russwurm's win with one of his own, a 6-2, 6-2, decision over David Kalmer at sixth singles.
Alex Makatsaria clinched the match for Fordham when he defeated Ayman Khan at the third flight, 6-2, 6-2, and Mauritzson made it 5-0 for the Rams when he was victorious over Goldstein, 6-1, 6-3, at first singles.
The other two singles matches went to a third set tiebreaker with Fordham wining both. de Macar took the first set from Apostolou at fourth singles, 7-5, but dropped the second, 6-1. He then came back to take the third set, 10-5. At second singles, Green dropped the first set to Wibmer, 7-5, but took the next two sets, 6-0 and 10-8, to secure the 7-0 Fordham win.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, March 13, as they travel to West Point, N.Y., to face Army West Point at 3:30 p.m.
