Quakertown, Pa. – The Fordham men's tennis team stayed unbeaten in the spring with a 6-1 win over Lafayette College at The Tennis Zone on Sunday.
The match opened with the Rams taking the doubles point, winning all three doubles matches.
Tom Russwurm and
Rhett Bailey got things started with a 6-3 win over William Barry and Davis Esslinger at third doubles and then
Fabian Mauritzson and
Nicholas Kanazirev clinched the point with a 7-6 (4) victory at the second position over Ross Coleman and Josh Wolfe.
Jofre Segarra and
Alex Makatsaria made it a clean sweep when they upended Daniel Kramer and John Yurconic at first doubles, 7-6 (7).
Fordham then took five of the six singles matches for the win.
Robert Hagan started it off with a 7-6 (7), 6-0 win at sixth singles over Nash Lovallo and Makatsaria made it 3-0 for the Rams when he upended Wolfe in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at the third spot.
Kanazirev clinched the match for Fordham with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Yurconic at second singles.
Other winners for the Rams were Russwurm over Kramer at the fourth position, 6-2, 6-4, and Segarra, a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Esslinger at the fifth spot.
The Rams (2-0) return to action on Saturday, April 3, when they travel to Hamden, Conn., to face Quinnipiac University at 1:00 p.m.
