Former women’s basketball standout joins HOF class of 2021

Bronx, N.Y. - Today we continue to introduce the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2021, recognizing the former student-athletes and coaches who will be honored, as today we recognize one of Fordham women's basketball's all-time greats, Erin Rooney, FCRH '14. She joins water polo's Ali Arat, former head rowing coach Ted Bonanno, women's basketball's Abigail Corning, softball's Jocelyn Dearborn, men's basketball's Jay Fazande, men's soccer's Ryan Meara, women's swimming's Caitlin Napoli, football's Mike Nebrich and Ralph Rios, men's track and field's Joe McGovern, and Joe Moglia in the class of 2021. They will be among the 13 inductees who will be honored in October.
 
Rooney will join the likes of Frankie Frisch, Vince Lombardi, Wellington Mara, Charlie Yelverton, Anne Gregory O'Connell, and Vin Scully in the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame. The new class is scheduled to be inducted on 2021 Homecoming weekend on Thursday, October 7, on the Rose Hill campus. Specifics will be released when available.
 
As part of the ceremony, Fordham will also present the Victory Bell Award as well as honor all current Fordham Athletic Hall of Famers. The Victory Bell will be presented to an individual or individuals who have brought distinction and honor to Fordham University Athletics through achievements not related to competition, coaching and/or administration. The honoree(s) will be selected by the Hall of Fame Committee and will embody a sense of leadership and passion for Fordham Athletics and serve as inspiration to the Fordham Athletics Family.

  • A two-year starter after transferring to Fordham from Monmouth
  • Member of the 2013-2014 team that went 25-8, won the Atlantic 10 title, and received Fordham's first women's basketball NCAA bid since 1994
  • Named 2014 First Team All-Atlantic 10 and First Team All-Met
  • Named to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship team
  • Led Rams to their first ever Atlantic 10 title
  • Led team and was third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring (17.5 ppg)
  • Led team and was 12th in the Atlantic 10 in rebounding (7.3 ppg)
  • Led team and was fourth in the Atlantic 10 in assists (5.2/game)
  • Scored more than 1,000 career points in just two seasons at Fordham
  • Became the first player in Fordham Women's Basketball history to record 500 points, 200 rebounds and 150 assists in the same season (2013-2014)
  • Her 577 points in 2013-2014 is the eighth-best single season total at Fordham
  • Recorded the program's first triple double in two decades
  • Finished third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring (17.5 ppg), 12th in rebounding (7.3 rpg) and fourth in assists (5.2 apg) as a senior in 2013-2014
  • Also ranked first in defensive rebounding (6.0 per game), second in minutes played (36.9 mpg) and fourth in three-point percentage (38.2) as a senior
  • Became first women's basketball player in Fordham history to receive First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors as a junior in 2012-2103
  • Also named First Team All-Met, Fordham's first since 1997
  • Finished career ranked 14th on the Fordham career scoring list (1,062) despite playing just two years (currently ranked 17th)
  • Her 15.7 ppg scoring average is fourth best all-time at Fordham while her .840 career free throw shooting percentage is fifth best
Rooney currently resides in Helsinki, Finland, where she is studying for a master's degree in Integrative Neuroscience at the University of Helsinki.
