Women’s Soccer Senior Day Spoiled by UMass

Rams Fall in Double Overtime, 2-1; Maura Holst Scores for Fordham

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 21, 2021) – The scene was once again set for another stellar Women's Soccer Senior Day for the Fordham Rams, featuring a highlight from the senior class.  Today, senior Maura Holst scored in the first half for the Rams to continue that trend.  However, the Massachusetts Minutewomen spoiled the day, taking a 2-1 double overtime decision from the Rams at Jack Coffey Field.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the first half in the 25th minute, when Maura Holst was taken down in the box, awarding a penalty kick to Fordham.  Holst stepped to the spot and buried it into the left side of the net for her first goal of the season.

The score remained that way until the 55th minute, when Nissa Pereira's corner kick hooked its way into the Fordham net to tie the game at one.

The match remained tied to the end of regulation, pushing the game into overtime.  Following a scoreless first ten minutes, the game was decided in the 107th minute, as from the left side, Grace Pinkus put a cross into the middle of the box that Lauren Bonavita headed into the net for the deciding marker.

In net, Fordham's Maria O'Sullivan made two saves, while Alyssa Chase and Bella Mendoza each had one for the Minutewomen.

The Rams are next in action on Thursday, March 25th, when they host Rhode Island at 3:00 PM.
