Bronx, N.Y. – (December 4, 2021) – The Fordham squash team hosted their final two matches before the holiday break on Saturday at the Lombardi Squash Courts, earning a split of the matches.
In the opening match of the day, Fordham fell to NYU by a 7-2 count.
Nicholas Choo and
Caleb Schumacher each earned points in the team score for Fordham. Choo defeated NYU's Nathan Chong in three games, 11-7, 11-3, and 11-5, at the sixth slot, while Schumacher took down Mia Lake, 11-9, 11-3, and 11-6, at the seventh slot.
The match could have easily flipped in Fordham's favor if not for three five-game losses in the heart of the Rams' order.
Dylan Panichello was up two games on Alex Murphy at fifth position, but Murphy rallied for the 1-11, 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, and 11-5 win.
Justin George was also up two games for Fordham at fourth position, but Pavan Jaini came back for the five-game win, 8-11, 11-13, 11-7, 11-6, and 11-8. Winthrop Reed also went five games at third position, after splitting the first four games with Andre Megliola. Reed though was outlasted in the final game, 12-14, 11-9, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9.
Fordham also just missed a win at first position with
Henry Frawley, as he was edged by Yaseen Elsebaie in four games, 9-11, 11-3, 12-10, and 11-9.
In the second match, Fordham rebounded for an 8-1 win over Swarthmore.
The Rams won all eight matches, as the lone point for Swarthmore was a defaulted point.
Choo and Schumacher each notched their second win of the afternoon, with Choo defeating Paris Shan (11-3, 11-2, 11-6) ad Schumacher taking down Abe Porschet (11-5, 11-7, 11-2).
Frawley, Reed, George, Panichello, and
Aarav Jhunjhunwala each earned three-game wins at the first, third, fourth, fifth, and eighth slots, respectively, while
Justin George posted a four-game win at second position over Sannan Dhillon, 11-6, 11-6, 10-12, and 11-6.
