Bronx, N.Y. – For Fordham students looking to get a start in the sports broadcasting industry, Tuesday was an eye-opening experiment as JR Jackson, founder of JR SportBrief and CBS Sports Radio host, treated the students to a discussion on breaking in to the sport media profession.
The day was part of Jackson's "Media for the Movement" tour aimed at imparting professional advice to sports media and communications students.
"We were thrilled to welcome JR to Fordham as one of the stops on his tour," said Fordham director of athletics Ed Kull. "His dynamic and professional personality ensured he not only addressed his successful career in sports media, but also spoke to the hard work and dedication he's put into all areas of his life. The time he took to really get to know our students and engage them on a personal level speaks volumes to JR. He is always welcome back to Rose Hill!"
Prior to his visit to Rose Hill, Jackson appeared on WFUV's One-on-One with Kelly Bright and Gigi Spear.
Jackson got his start in the sports communication world with his YouTube channel, J.R. Sports Brief. Using that channel as a springboard, he was able to work in different media outlets such as television, broadcasting, and radio.
Along the way, Jackson also focused on diversity and inclusion. He is collaborating with Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools (SOUCS) on the current tour to raise awareness about accessibility and sports.
On Tuesday night, Jackson hosted his CBS Sports Radio show live from the Rose Hill Gym as members of the WFUV sports staff looked on.
Fordham was one of at least 20 schools that are hosting the "Media for the Movement" tour. The visit to Rose Hill marked the sixth week of a planned 11-week tour.
