Men’s Tennis Opens Season with 7-0 Win over Wagner

Rams win all six singles matches in straight sets

Staten Island, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis squad opened its fall season on Saturday with a 7-0 shutout of Wagner College at the College of Staten Island Tennis Courts.
 
Fordham opened play by winning the doubles point, taking all three doubles matches. Jofre Segarra and Toi Kobayashi took first doubles from Rodrigo Perez and Tejasvi Mehra, 6-1, while Rhett Bailey and Tom Russwurm won at second doubles over Aryan Gupta and Jordan Hunte, 6-3. Juan Paredes and Robert Hagan had to go to an extra set before defeating Omar Loufty and Lucas Darling, 7-6.
 
The Rams then took all six singles matches in straight sets. Paredes won at first singles (6-3, 6-3), Russwurm took second singes (6-2, 6-3), Segarra was victorious at the third spot (6-3, 6-4), Kobayashi won at fourth singes (6-4, 6-2), Bailey won at fifth position (6-2, 7-5) and Hagan was the winner at the sixth spot (6-2, 6-2).
 
The Rams return to action on October 14 as they open play at the ITA Northeast Championship at Yale.
