Bre Cavanaugh Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

Redshirt Junior Earns Third Weekly Honor of the Year After Averaging 26.5 Points, 8.0 Rebounds Last Week

Newport News, Va. – Redshirt junior Bre Cavanaugh picked up her third Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor, the league office announced on Monday afternoon, after averaging 26.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games last week. It is also the seventh time she's won the accolade in her career and 11th weekly award if you include her four Rookie of the Week honors.
 
"Bre has been terrific and obviously one of the main reasons we were able to have a successful regular season," Head coach Stephanie Gaitley said, "I believe her basketball is ahead!"
 
The Rams went 1-1 last week, with a loss at Duquesne in midweek and a resounding win over Saint Joseph's in the regular season finale on Saturday. Cavanaugh scored a game-high 23 points at Duquesne, corralling nine rebounds and chipping in an assist and a steal over all 40 minutes, the 15th time she's played the whole game this season and was her seventh straight. The Allamuchy, N.J. outdid herself over the weekend, however, by scoring a season-high 30 points on a super-efficient 12-of-18 from the field, matching her career-high in makes. It was the fourth 30-point game of her career. She added seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block over 36 minutes.
 
For the week, Cavanaugh averaged 26.5 points on 52.8% shooting overall, 38.5% from deep, and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line, with 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals over 38.0 minutes.
 
Cavanaugh leads the Atlantic 10 in scoring and is 17th nationally with 19.4 points per game, while she is fourth in the country with 38.8 minutes played per game and fourth with 1,126 total minutes. Among her Division I compatriots, she ranks seventh with 499 field goal attempts, eighth with 564 total points, 21st with an 87.1% free-throw percentage, 27th with 128 free throws made, and 37th with 188 made field goals.
 
As she heads into her third straight Atlantic 10 Championship, she sits fourth all-time in program history with 1,723 career points, third w ith a career 17.8 point-per-game average, fourth with 388 free throws, fifth with 201 three-pointers, sixth with 567 field goals, and is up to seventh with 3,726 minutes played. She has started 97 straight games since donning the maroon and white and has played 30 or more minutes in all but one of them.
 
Fordham welcomes Saint Joseph's back to the Bronx on Tuesday night for their opening road game of this week's A-10 Championship. The Rams solidified their third-place finish and with a win will face either Duquesne or Rhode Island in Dayton on Friday at 7 p.m. s
