Houston, Texas – The Fordham softball team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday, defeating Northwestern State, 4-3. With the win, the Rams improve to 1-4 on the year.
The Rams never trailed in the contest.
Anne Marie Prentiss plated the game's first run with a RBI single, scoring
Julia Martine, in the second inning. Fordham went up 3-0 with a pair of runs in the fifth before the Demons rallied to tie the game in the sixth. The Rams scored first on an error on a throw during a double steal by
Brianna Pinto and
Madie Aughinbaugh, the latter scoring, then Pinto came home on a groundout by
Sarah Taffet. The winning run came in the top of the seventh when Taffet grounded out to third, scoring Aughinbaugh.
Freshman
Devon Miller made her second start and tossed six frames, allowing three runs, two earned, with no walks and five strikeouts. Aughinbaugh came in for a 1-2-3 seventh inning and the save.
Aughinbaugh went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs, while Pinto and
Amanda Carey notched two hits apiece. Carey enjoyed a solid weekend, batting .500 with four extra-base hits, including two home runs. Pinto tallied a team-high six hits and five stolen bases, while Aughinbaugh scored a team-high five times. The team as a whole was successful in all 12 steal attempts.
The Rams are back in action next weekend at the Fresno State Kick-Off Classic where they will play the hosts twice, California, Cal Poly, and Saint Mary's.
