2020 Edition of the NYC Soccer Gala Honors Six

Bob Ley, Bruce Arena, Jim McElderry, Huey Ferguson, Amr Aly, & Phil LaSpisa Receive Honors

New York, N.Y. – (February 27, 2020) – The past and present of New York City soccer was honored on Tuesday night, as the 2020 New York City Soccer Gala was held with six prominent individuals being honored at the New York Athletic Club.
 
The New York City Soccer Gala was formulated by the Division I men's soccer programs of New York City. Soccer in New York City has a proud, rich history and the Gala's goal is to highlight and show appreciation to all those who have devoted their lives to enhancing the game of soccer.
 
Bob Ley (long-time ESPN broadcaster) and Bruce Arena (current New England Revolution head coach and former U.S. National Team and New York Red Bulls head coach) were the featured guests for the class of 2020.  They joined with college honorees Jim McElderry (Fordham), Huey Ferguson (St. John's), Phil LaSpisa (St. Francis Brooklyn), and Amr Aly (Columbia) to complete the class of 2020.
 
McElderry was the seventh Ram to be honored at the event joining former coach Frank Schnur (2013) and players Mark Lugris '83 (2014), Jack Shannon '85 (2015), John Wolyniec '99 (2016), and Chris Donovan '92 (2017), and Chris Gonzalez '95 (2018).
 
McElderry spent 16 years as the head coach at Rose Hill, building a program into a perennial contender in the Atlantic 10 Conference, as well as into a threat on the national stage.  He registered 127 coaching win at Rose Hill, highlighted by two Atlantic 10 Championships, one regular season conference championship, three NCAA Championship berth, and a run to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals in 2017.
