Bronx, N.Y. – (February 19, 2020) – The Fordham squash team had their final regular season match prior to the CSA Team Championship, defeating NYU by a 6-3 score at the Lombardi Center Squash Courts.
Fordham (18-9) got wins at the #3 slot and the #5 through #9 positions to garner the team victory, as the Rams took the rubber match of their three meetings this year.
Justin Deckoff
Bruce Czachor led the way at the third position, knocking off Max White in three games, 11-4, 11-5, and 11-9.
Dylan Panichello,
Justin George, and
Jacob Bennett also posted three game sweeps in the match. Panichello took down Kenneth Nakamura at sixth position, 11-7, 11-7, and 11-4, while George defeated Rishabh Periwal at the seventh slot, 11-8, 11-6, and 11-3. Bennett rounded out the sweeps with an 11-7, 11-8, and 11-4 win over Alex Murphy at the eighth slot.
The Rams took home the team win courtesy of two come-from-behind wins by
Justin Deckoff and
Caleb Schumacher. Deckoff trailed two games to one and rallied back to win in five games over Gene Chung at fifth position, 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, and 11-4. Schumacher came back from a 2-0 deficit to topple William McPhail at the ninth slot, 10-12, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, and 11-8.
The Fordham squash team will now prepare for the CSA Team Championship, which will be held February 28 through March 1 in Boston, Massachusetts.
