Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls to Columbia, 3-1

Crea Baker-Durante nets Rams’ goal

Bronx, N.Y. – After opening the season with four straight road games, the Fordham women's soccer team had their first home game of the year on Thursday night. Unfortunately, the home field advantage did not work out for the Rams, who fell to Columbia, 3-1, on Jack Coffey Field.

With the loss, Fordham drops to 1-4-0 on the season while Columbia evens its record at 1-1-1.

After a scoreless first half in which Columbia outshot the Rams, 3-2, the Lions got on the board first as Jessica Schildkraut took a pass from Cayla Davis and beat Fordham keeper Kelly LaMorte to the upper left corner just over a minute into the second half.

Seven minutes later, Mallaika Tomar collected a long feed from Maddie Temares and went alone in on LaMorte, beating the Fordham keeper from just inside the box for a 2-0 Lion lead.

A little over four minutes later, the Rams cut the Columbia lead in half when, off a corner kick, Crea Baker-Durante picked up a feed from Maura Holst in a scramble in front of the Columbia goal and found the back of the net for her first tally of the year.

However, Columbia quickly regained a two-goal lead as the pair who teamed up for the first Lion goal switched places. Cayla Davis recorded the tally, taking a set piece from Jessica Schildkraut and scoring from seven yards out.

LaMorte recorded six saves in net for the Rams while Liz Matai made three for the Lions.

Fordham returns to action on Sunday, September 8, as they host Lehigh University on Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m.
