Early Goal Upends Women’s Soccer at Richmond

Rams Back at Home on Thursday Night Against George Mason

Bronx, N.Y. – (September 29, 2019) – Looking at the box score, the Fordham Rams seemed to be on the right side of most things in their women's soccer match at Richmond on Sunday afternoon.  The Rams had advantages in shots and corner kicks, while limiting the Spiders to just two shots on goal.  Unfortunately for the Rams, one of those two shots proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Richmond win.

The Rams move to 2-8-2 on the year, 1-2 in the Atlantic 10, while Richmond improved to 5-4-2 on the year, 2-1 in the league.

The lone goal of the contest came in the sixth minute,  Richmond's T.J. Anderson pushed the ball forward to Brooke Beam, who was able to cut back and sneak a shot inside the right post for her second goal of the season.

Fordham had scoring opportunities against two Richmond goalkeepers in the game.  Jessica Stanfill made three saves over the first 71 minutes before having to come out of the game after a save on a shot by Maura Holst.  Claire Hinkle then finished the game and was credited with one stop on a Kristen Cocozza opportunity in the 79th minute.

The Rams had a final chance on a last minute corner kick, their eighth of the match, but were unable to convert.

After a career-high in saves last game, Kelly LaMorte finished with only one save on Sunday.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Thursday, October 3rd, when the Rams host George Mason at 7:00 PM.
