Bronx, N.Y. – (October 3, 2019) – The overtime magic at Jack Coffey Field continued to roll in favor of the home team on Thursday night, as the women's soccer team earned a 2-1 overtime win over the George Mason Patriots, courtesy of a pair of goals from junior Maura Holst.

With the win, Fordham improved to 2-2 in the Atlantic 10, 3-8-2 overall, while George Mason fell to 0-4 in the league, 2-8-1 on the year.

Following a scoreless first half, the Rams cracked the scoreboard in the 66th minute.  Maura Holst ripped a shot from inside the box that went off a George Mason defender for a handball, awarding a penalty kick to the Rams.  Holst took the penalty kick and drilled it into the left side of the goal for her first of the season.

George Mason quickly tied the game at one in the 70th minute.  After a corner kick chance, Emma Lee played a ball back into the box from the right side and found the head of Shannon Lee, who tucked in her first goal of the year inside the left post.

The score remained tied at one, forcing the game into overtime.  The Rams then rewarded the fans with an overtime winner in the 94th minute.  As George Mason attempted to clear, Claudia Cuicani moved up from her defender position to play a long ball back toward the box.  Holst was able to flick the ball with the back of her head, just enough to change the angle and spin on the ball, as the ball squirted through the George Mason goalkeeper's hands and trickled over the line for the winning marker.

The win is Fordham's first-ever victory over George Mason in seven all-time meetings.

The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, October 6th, as the Rams travel to VCU for a 1:00 PM conference match.
