LAST TIME OUT: Senior
Margaret Roughley's 85
th minute penalty proved to be the difference in Sunday afternoon's Atlantic 10 opener at Coffey Field, with the Rams defeating St. Bonaventure, 1-0, on Alumni Day.
With each team notching just one shot over the first 45 minutes in extreme temperatures, the tempo picked up in the second half, especially for the hosts. Fordham outshot the Bonnies, 9-2, in the second period and 10-3 overall, including six shots on target to the Bonnies' one. Lauren Malcolm made five saves on the afternoon, while
Kelly LaMorte had one stop.
Roughley's goal had been coming, as Fordham continued to put pressure on St. Bonaventure. Seconds before,
Hope Baisley saw a shot blocked and a foul was committed on the rebound. Roughley stepped up and powered her penalty to the right for her first goal of the year. Her and
Maura Holst each recorded two shots, both on target, to lead the team, while Baisley and
Marissa Stanco each had two.
The shutout was LaMorte's fourth of the year, moving her into a tie for third all-time with Megan Fitzgerald, who was in attendance at the game.
LAMORTE AMONG NATIONAL & ATLANTIC 10 LEADERS: The NCAA released its weekly statistics report and Fordham goalkeeper
Kelly LaMorte finds herself among the national leaders in two categories. She rates tenth in the country in total saves (56) and 18
