Women's Basketball Adds Graduate Transfer for 2019-20 Campaign

Isis Young, Formerly of Syracuse and Florida, Granted a Sixth Year of Eligibility

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham women's basketball head coach Stephanie Gaitley has announced a fourth addition to the upcoming 2019-20 season in the form of graduate transfer Isis Young. The Berlin, N.J. native spent the past three years with Syracuse and began her collegiate career at Florida. Young joins Anna DeWolfe, Eden Johnson, and Sarah Karpell for the upcoming campaign.

"We are super excited to add Isis to our Fordham family," Gaitley said, "Isis and Bre formed a terrific backcourt at the AAU level. She will add a great deal to our roster as both a student-athlete and person!"

Isis Young, a 5'7 guard, was a four-star recruit out of Life Center Academy, ranked No. 59 in the Class of 2014 by ESPNW HoopGurlz and the No. 12 guard in her class. She redshirted her first year while earning a spot on the SEC's Academic Honor Roll before appearing in 16 contests during the 2015-16 season. Young then transferred to Syracuse and sat during the 2016-17 season.

Young appeared in 31 contests in 2017-18, averaging 6.7 points across 18.5 minutes per game, converting 30.5% of her three-point attempts, handing out 28 assists, and tallying 17 steals. She scored a career-high 20 points in her debut contest and later notched back-to-back 11-point performances in the ACC and NCAA Tournaments. This past year, Young appeared in nine games but did not play against Fordham in their NCAA Tournament game.

While at Syracuse, she earned her bachelor's degree in Communications and Rhetorical Studies and her Master's degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism at the esteemed S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

The Rams are coming off a historic 2018-19 season that saw the program's second-ever Atlantic 10 championship and a share of its first-ever regular season title. Fordham coasted to the conference crown by an average margin of victory of just under 23 points across three games in Pittsburgh before falling to the Orange in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Fordham's 13 conference wins were a new program record and last year's squad tied a school record with 12 straight wins, up and through the A-10 Tournament, and a new record of nine consecutive league victories.
