Orlando, Fla. – The Fordham women's tennis squad, seeded seventh, opened play at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championships with a convincing 4-0 win over tenth-seeded George Mason at the USTA National Campus on Wednesday.
Fordham opened the match wining the doubles point, taking both completed doubles matches.
Nicole Li and
Genevieve Quenville blanked Hannah Yang and Rachel Lee at third doubles, 6-0, and then
Arina Taluyenko and
Tatiana Grigoryan defeated Sydney Green and Brianna Gibbs, 6-2, at first doubles.
The Rams then took the first three singles matches in straight sets to clinch the win. Taluyenko was victorious over Green at first singles, 6-1 and 6-2, and then
Maia Balce defeated Gibbs at the second position, 6-1 and 6-3.
Alexis Zobeideh closed out the match for Fordham with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Christine McCarthy at sixth singles.
The Rams continue play at the Atlantic 10 Championships by facing second-seeded George Washington on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
