Orlando, Fla. – The seventh-seeded Fordham men's tennis squad got things off on the right foot today at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-0 win over tenth-seeded Saint Louis at the USTA National Campus.
The Rams opened play by winning both completed doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Lutwin de Macar and
Alex Makatsaria got it started with a 6-2 win over Pavel Badaiants and John Paul McKenzie at third doubles and then
Max Green and
Finn Kemper clinched the point for Fordham with a 6-2 victory over Oscar Pachon and Ignacio Tintore at second doubles.
Fordham then won the first three completed singles matches, all in straight sets, for the win. Makatsaria was the first Ram to win a singles match, upending Tintore at the fifth position, 6-1 and 6-1, and
Jofre Segarra followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win over McKenzie at sixth singles.
Lutwin de Macar then clinched the match for Fordham with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Badaiants at fourth singles.
The Rams advance to play second-seeded Richmond on Friday at Noon at the USTA National Campus.
