Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham women's tennis team finally got a chance for a home match on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts but came up short to LIU, falling to the Blackbirds, 4-3.
Fordham opened the match by winning the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Arina Taluyenko and
Tatiana Grigoryan got it started with a 6-2 win over Ana Leonte and Anna Grigoryan at first doubles and
Gianna Insogna and
Nicole Li clinched the point for the Rams with a 6-3 win over Malin Leysen and Clemence Krug at third doubles.
Fordham didn't have as much luck in singles, winning two of the six matches. Insogna defeated Leysen at fourth singles, 6-4 and 6-4 and Li upended Leonte at the fifth spot, 7-5 and 6-3.
The match came down to third singles where
Tatiana Grigoryan took the first set from Sasha Bollweg, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-4, and the third, 6-3.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, April 6, as they travel to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's University at 1:30 p.m.
