Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis finally got a chance to play an outdoor match today and the Rams made the most of it, shutting out Rider University, 7-0, on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts.
Fordham opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Fabian Mauritzson and
Allen Thornes defeated Lysander Payano Almo and Peter Komosinski at first doubles, 6-2, and
Max Green and
Finn Kemper upended Javier Melendez and Nicholas Salazar by the same score at the second position.
Lutwin de Macar and
Alex Makatsaria took care of Brandon Gildea and Griffin Clark at third doubles, 6-0.
The Rams then won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Finn Kemper didn't lose a set to Melendez at first singles, winning, 6-0 and 6-0, while Makatsaria defeated Payano Almo at second singles, 6-2 and 6-2. At third singles,
Jeremy Chung was victorious over Komosinski, 6-1 and 6-2, while Thornes took care of Ryan Ciaccio at the fourth spot, 6-3, 6-4.
Jofre Segarra defeated Griffin Clark at fifth singles, 6-0 and 7-5, and
Steven Duka lost just one set at sixth singles to Nicholas Salazar, winning 6-0 and 6-1.
The rams return to action on Saturday, March 30 as they host George Washington University on the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts at 1:00 p.m.
